Modeling and Rendering Escher-Like Impossible Scenes

Inspired by the drawings of “impossible” objects by artists such as M.C. Escher, we describe a mathematical theory which captures some of the underlying principles of their work. Using this theory, we show how impossible three-dimensional scenes may be modeled and rendered synthetically.

Real-Time Video-Based Modeling and Rendering of 3D Scenes

virtual reality, developing techniques for synthesizing arbitrary views has become an important technical issue. Given an object’s structural model (such as a polygon or volume model), it’s relatively easy to synthesize arbitrary views. Generating a structural model of an object, however, isn’t necessarily easy. For this reason, research has been progressing on a technique called image-based mo...

Modeling, Animating, and Rendering Complex Scenes Using Volumetric Textures

Modeling Animating and Rendering Complex Scenes using Volumetric Textures Fabrice Neyret iMAGIS / IMAG , BP 53 38041 Grenoble Cedex 09 France [email protected] http://w3imagis.imag.fr/Membres/Fabrice.Neyret/index.gb.html Abstract| Complex repetitive scenes containing forests, foliage, grass, hair or fur, are challenging for common modeling and rendering tools. The amount of data, the tedio...

Rendering of Forest Scenes

I will discuss and compare two methods to render large forest scenes. One involves pre-generated impostors with different levels of coarseness, the other one batches up large parts of the scene according to an octree grid. Additionally, a method for LOD blending without transparency and a method for tree shading will also be presented.

Compressive Rendering of Multidimensional Scenes

Recently, we proposed the idea of using compressed sensing to reconstruct the 2D images produced by a rendering system, a process we called compressive rendering. In this work, we present the natural extension of this idea to multidimensional scene signals as evaluated by a Monte Carlo rendering system. Basically, we think of a distributed ray tracing system as taking point samples of a multidi...
